Covid-19 Pandemic Safety Protocols

At Happy Tails, we are doing our part to create a safe workplace and storefront during this Covid-19 crisis.  Our staff will be following strict safety guidelines during this time to keep our employees and clients safe from the spread of Covid-19.

The staff at Happy Tails will be following physical distancing rules as well as strict sanitizing measures.  All tools and equipment will be properly disinfected and sanitized after every use.  Traffic areas in the store will be disinfected after every visitor.   Our staff have been instructed to stay home for 14 days if they are feeling unwell or if they have come into contact with anyone carrying Covid-19.  You will notice the receptionist wearing a mask when you enter the store.  This is to keep you safe, and we ask that you do the same.  Many positive cases of Covid-19 have been found on people who weren’t showing any signs or symptoms of the virus.

We also want to keep our employees safe, so we ask that you adhere to the following requirements.

  • You must stay 6 feet away from all other customers and staff at all times.  This includes the times when you are outside the store, waiting to enter.

  • Only one family may enter our store at a time.   If you see someone in the store, please wait outside until they have left the building.

  • Upon entering the porch area, ring the doorbell and we will unlock the door for you when we are ready.   Please be patient as we need to sanitize traffic areas before you enter.

  • Please wear a mask that fully covers your nose and mouth when dropping off and picking up your dog.   If you have forgotten your mask, we will have some individually bagged, for you, beside the hand sanitizer, on the porch area.

  • Use the hand sanitizer provided before and after entry.

  • Your dog must be on a leash when entering the store.

  • It is extremely important that you arrive for your appointment on time.  If you are early, please wait in your car until the appointment time.

  • There will be no tolerance for late or missed appointments!!  If you are more than 10 minutes late you will forfeit your appointment and you will be charged for 50% of the groom.   If you miss your appointment, without giving us at least 24 hours’ notice of the cancellation, you will be charged for 50% of the groom.

  • We will call you shortly before your dog will be finished its groom.   It is very important that you pick up your dog on time.  We have very limited kenneling space and we must keep all dogs separated during this time.  If you are more than ½ hour late picking up your dog, you will be charged a daycare fee.

  • Payment can be made at that time with a credit card over the phone, e-transfer to or you may use our sanitized debit machine (now with tap).

  • If you are feeling sick or have signs of illness (e.g. fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, tiredness, shortness of breath), or if you have been in contact with another person carrying Covid-19, you must self-isolate for 14 days.  If this is the case, please call and cancel your appointment, and we ask that you give us as much notice as possible.

For pets receiving haircuts during the Covid-19 pandemic, we ask that you support and trust our experienced groomers to make practical decisions, and that a “start over” short clip may be necessary.  This short clip may also include ears, head, face, muzzle, feet, toes and tail.

Please be aware that hot spots, sores, bacterial infections or any other form of skin breakdown may be uncovered and exposed. This is due to matted fur allowing less air movement and suffocating the skin.  This restricts blood flow to the skin, resulting in an area harbouring moisture and bacteria, and trapping it close to the skin.

Happy Tails will not be held responsible for clipper burn and/or minor nicks resulting from grooming of matted, neglected coats, or for irritation caused by removing coats from pets possessing mild to severe skin allergy.

Happy Tails will not be held responsible for any pre-existing medical conditions or the aggravation of those conditions: such as, but not limited to heart disease, arthritis, obesity, infections, or any other medical condition that may be affected by the grooming process.  We will not be held responsible for stressful effects grooming may have upon an elderly pet.

We reserve the right to refuse service to customers whose pet may pose a threat to us or to the other pets left in our care, whether it be aggression, difficulty grooming, poor health and/or parasites.
